Dry Tortuga

Scratch flying in a sea plane off the bucket list! That was the first thing we did. It was amazing to get a birds eye view of the ocean. I spotted so many crazy things. I spotted shipwrecks, dolphins, stingrays, sharks, and hundreds of turtles. The water was such a pretty blue and shallow, so it was very easy to see everything. This was easily one of the most amazing things I have ever done.

In the 1840’s the military built a fort on this island in the keys. It was used to hold prisoners of war captive and to keep the British out. It’s most famous prisoner is Dr. Mudd and Abraham Lincolns assassination conspirators. It’s the largest brick building in the Western Hemisphere. It was interesting to look at the old cannons (Will got the whole view) and how they got a small amount of fresh water. There also wasn’t a lot keeping us from falling off the top of the wall.

If you’re looking for a great place to snorkel, this is it. The water is super clear and there are lots of tropical fish and coral. We could also see the old stuff that the military had thrown into the bay, like an old wheel and even a bookcase. (Oh and back at the camp site we saw two chickens fighting and I have to show you because it’s the craziest thing ever).
