Glacier Day 2

Wow! Look at that view! Such magnificent mountains! Today was maybe our first failure on this trip. The smoke was really bad and we didn’t see much. You could stare straight at the sun and nothing would happen. We rented a jeep though. It was nice to have a change of scenery and was fun to ride in.

The first part of the drive was in the rainforesty area so we could see as far as the trees would allow. We also totally saw a bear. It was just chilling in the river. Our first hike is the most popular hike in glacier and it was packed. There were three parking lots completely full. After about 25 minutes we finally found a spot. The wait was worth it. All the trees were really cool and there was a river running by us.

After a few minutes we got to the mountainous part. The roads were really narrow and right on the edge of a cliff. Some of the things we had to go over were pretty sketchy. We saw some cool waterfalls and the mountains we could see were amazing. I definitely want to come back and see what it’s really like.

Eventually we made it to the top and Logan’s Pass. We knocked out the Junior Ranger, had some lunch, and took a look at the glacier which wasn’t much to see. Then we went a little ways farther to lunch creek. After regretting not eating lunch there we took a hike up around it. This was my favorite hike of the day. The water was so pure and the rocks were covered in a foggy moss. It was very charming.

After a fairly disappointing drive we decided to let loose and take off the top for the drive back down. Afterwords we decided to further pollute the air and have hot dogs over a fire. I was in charge of tending the fire and if there is one thing I’ve observed from my dad it is how to properly tend a fire.
