Houston Space Center
Today we stopped at the Houston Space Center. I’ve always loved learning about space at places like Cape Canaveral. There is just so much possibility. The first thing we discovered today... Houston is extremely hot. We were boiling. Anyway as soon as we walked through the door we were amazed. There was so much to do and see. They also had this fun activity where you select a task to complete by the end of the day. I chose scientist, Ben chose engineer, Evie was astronaut, and Mom was mission control.
We did a lot so I’ve got to go through this fast. We took a tram to see the HUGE Saturn 5 rocket (this was my favorite part), learned about life on the space station (they sleep upside down because there is no gravity), met a real life astronaut who piloted and commanded the space shuttle (I loved his presentation. It was very well prepared and had a good mix of space information and food for thought), fixed the space station in VR (It was kind of a disappointment. I was expecting something like spaceship earth), designed our own rockets and space suits on an iPad, (Ben’s favorite), went inside the space shuttle Independence and the 747 that transported it (This was one of the highlights. Very cool to go inside instead of just looking), and got to see some of the SpaceX rockets, moon rocks, and the podium were JFK have his famous speech at Rice. And don’t forget the gift shop. Well that was the longest sentence ever. And that wasn’t even all we did. I’m sure I’m forgetting something. It was a great day in Houston.
