Jewel Cave and Devils Tower

We we’re driving through South Dakota for a while and we were getting bored, so we pulled off to jewel cave to earn a junior ranger badge. Sadly the cave was closed, but the visitor center was really fun. You had to spot all the bats and climb through the mini cave. A cool fact about jewel cave is that the wind inside can be up to 35 mph. The little cave simulator apparently replicated that and it scared the bejeebers out of me because I was not expecting fans! It was a pretty big disappointment that we couldn’t go into the cave, but it was still okay.

The last thing we did today was walk around devils tower. You could see it from miles away! It’s a collection of rock columns that withstood erosion. It was really cool to see. There was a spot where you could climb to the base of the tower by climbing some boulders which we all did, of course. Afterword we completed the hike around, played mini golf at the KOA and had a nice evening.
