Crater Lake
Today we visited Crater Lake. The views were spectacular and I have never seen water so blue. In fact, when prospectors discovered the lake they called it Big Blue Lake. It is 1,900 feet deep, the deepest lake in the U.S., and the water is cleaner than anything that comes out of your tap.
We pulled off to take our first hike at a lookout. The hike was up a pretty steep hill and we were all pretty hot. We made it to the top and honestly the lookout at the top had the same view as the lookout we started at at. It was still fun to hike and stretch our legs though.
The next morning we slept in because it was cold! The heater worked this time, thankfully! We wanted to swim and fish so we hiked down a very scenic trail to the bottom. The water is even prettier there. The shore is teal and the middle is a deep blue. The water was so cold even is kids didn’t get in. We did catch some fish though. I had multiple bites but could never reel it in. Evie caught a big one though. There are no rivers or streams coming into Crater Lake, so 6 species of fish were introduced. Only salmon and rainbow trout survived.
We needed something else to do so we explored our RV park. We played some pickle ball, paddled a canoe, and even worked up the courage to go under the freezing cold water.
