Carlsbad Caverns

Today we went to yet another cave (number five so far). This was for sure the best one we’ve done so far. It had the size of mammoth but the formations of Lewis and Clark. The first thing we noticed though is that the whole cave stinks because of the bat poop. They used to harvest bat poop for fertilizer and said at one spot there was 40 feet of poop. Walking through the cave was a lot of straight down. It made us wonder how people used to explore it.

My favorite room was the green lake room because of the cool natural color from the lake. We also got to see The Bottomless Pit. It’s 90 feet deep but you can’t see the bottom. Our final stop was the Big Room. It is the biggest cave room in the U.S., but only the 31st biggest in the world. This one had the best formations though. It was a great day at the cave.
