Billings, Montana
Today we had a no-driving day in Billings at the first KOA ever, which was fun. Turns out there’s not much to do in Billings. We got a lot of school work done in the morning and then rode our bikes to Dairy Queen. I had never eaten there, but Mom was talking it up quite a bit. This bike path made me very glad we don’t live in Montana. It’s so dry and the locusts are unbearable. They literally covered the sidewalk and every two seconds you would get hit by one or hear a loud crunch.
After the longest two miles of my life we made it to Dairy Queen! We were enjoying our meal when the bugs struck again! The yellow jackets really loved our blizzards so we picked up our food and went to a different little picnic area but they followed us. It got to the point where Evie dropped her chicken nuggets in the middle of the street and ran around in circles. Mom also needed to stop at the store for a few things so we made one last attempt at enjoying our hard earned lunch. We packed up our food, walked our bikes down a hill, and sat down a shady spot in the target parking lot. It was much better, but they were still there. It probably wasn’t as bad as I described, but in the moment it felt like the worst possible thing that could’ve happened! We just wanted some chicken nuggets! I’m really proud of Mom. Evie had a flat tire and she totally fixed it! Turns out I had one too. I was just too dumb to realize it.
Anyway, after driving the locusty trail back we played some putt-putt. Ben and I invented a new game called Putt-Puck Double Hockey. The rules are you start by dropping the balls down the ramp. Once they come down the goal is to get yours in the cup first, but you can knock the other persons ball away. It was surprisingly really fun. After that we watched a movie and had some dinner.
